When the phone rang early on Sunday morning I figured the new swell filled in and the girls were calling to paddle out. I jumped to my feet when I heard my sister’s voice announce ‘it’s here’. My baby sister would finally get her heart transplant, a second chance at life.
The past year has been a tough one for my family and for those of you who were wondering what happened to us in BI last year, this is why we postponed. So to the airport I went and before I could even take a breath I was waiting with my sister’s HUGE support crew of amazing family and friends.
Two pizzas, 8 cups of coffee, 2 boxes of cookies, a stunned security guard, 6 walks to the corner deli, 4 phone calls for updates, one little mouse and 28 family and friends later, the doctor, with amazing hands, finally came out with a smile you could see from across the room. She made it through a twelve hour surgery and after a very difficult recovery my little sister is home and feeling great.
I have learned, been inspired and am grateful for so much already this New Year. I learned what being strong really means. I learned that you just never know what is waiting for you around the corner, so why wait. I was inspired by my family and sister’s grace, knowledge and ability to keep a positive attitude even during the absolute worst circumstances. I am inspired to find new sol locations, introduce you to new experiences.
Lastly, I am grateful for you, my sol family for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to love what I do.
So my New Year’s resolution is to WAKE UP AND DREAM!!!
Invest in your life, take that chance, strive for happiness- one healthy meal, one paddle, one yoga pose, one wave, one heart beat at a time.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!
